BTCSD Greenbelt Stewardship Plan

PUBLIC MEETING - October 15, 2005

Brooktrails Community Center - 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

Presented by the Recreation, Greenbelt & Conservation Committee

Facilitated by Brian Weller

Director Ziady concluded her presentation by stating that the Greenbelt is the heart of Brooktrails and needs care from this community. She stated we believe the forest is alive. She thanked the audience for their time and for coming to the meeting. She said the next step in the process is the ad hoc committee meeting on October 18, where input from this meeting will be considered. Then the draft plan will be presented to the Board at the end of October for reading, and at the November Board meeting it will be discussed. Director Ziady said she did not know if action would be taken that night or not, but that the public can again have input. The ad hoc committee and the Recreation Committee would like to see the plan go forward, so that classes can be organized beginning this winter.

An audience member said that most abatement can be handled with hand tools. He said it takes more time, but it is also safer and better exercise. Mr. Weller encouraged the audience to get involved, talk to their neighbors, and check out the website. An audience member asked if there was any hope of a second access road for the area. Director Ziady said that the planned Willits Bypass recognizes and supports a second bypass road for us. The District will have to contribute money for that.

An audience member asked about the shaded fuel break on Ridge Road. He said in the past it sounded like sections of Ridge Road, but now it sounded more like the whole Ridge Road. Director Ziady said she didn't think that could happen, because she didn't think all the property owners would agree, but you could create enough of it to abate a fire coming up the ridge. Another audience member said he believed CDF has identified the most critical areas up there, and this is not the whole ridge. Mr. Stahle said it has to do with drainages on the south side, too, as they act like a chimney.

Director Ziady thanked the audience.
