  • Earthquake Preparedness Information
This USGS report also says that the next one will most likely strike farther north than Loma Prieta, somewhere between San Jose and Santa Rosa on either side of the Bay. The epicenter of the October 1989 quake was in a sparsely populated area. The next one, according to the study, will likely be centered in a more populated area. During the Loma Prieta earthquake, shaking was so severe in the Santa Cruz Mountains that a van overturned, treetops snapped off, and many people were thrown to the ground. Because the next one is expected to strike closer to an urban area, it will cause much more damage. Fortunately, there is something we can do about it. By taking actions, such as those described in this booklet, we can drastically reduce the losses and we can make the Bay Area a safer place to live.

(Btcsd Assoc. Gov. Link) The California Special District Association (CSDA) was formed in 1969 to ensure the continued existence of local, independent special districts. For 30 years, CSDA has been offering its members cost-efficient programs and representation in the State Capitol. In the post-Proposition 13 legislative atmosphere, the independence and operation efficiency of independent special districts can only be maintained through well-organized action focused on the State Capitol and in local communities. CSDA has been active in the ongoing state budget battles working to oppose continued property tax shifts and the "superpot" concept. The strength of the Association lies in its membership. Your district can be a part of the special district voice in the Capitol as well as benefit from participation in many of CSDA's programs.
