Dear Property Owner:
This is the prime time of year for the risk of a vegetation fire which can threaten lives and property. The Brooktrails Fire Department and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection urge homeowners and residents to comply with California State Law, specifically the Public Resources Code, Section 4291 which requires clearance around structures and creates a Defensible Space. Homeowners can reduce the threat of property loss from a fire by removing and reducing vegetation within 30 feet of each structure, or to the property line, whichever is less. This effort will not only help protect structures from the threat of an approaching vegetation fire, but will allow fire companies a margin of safety while working under these conditions. Please utilize the checklist below to reduce fire hazards. In the past, Brooktrails citizens have had a high compliance rate for abatement programs. We are asking for your cooperation to see that these hazards are abated. When your property is in compliance, please return the lower portion of this form. Ongoing inspections will continue on a random basis.
I would also like to remind you that burning is not permitted from June 1 through the end of the fire season each year. CDF will declare when fire season ends. Please obtain a burn permit at our Fire Department or at the District Office and call the Air Quality hotline at (707) 463-439\ to be sure it is a permissive burn day before burning. Also, burn barrels are no longer allowed in Mendocino County. You may call our fire department at 707-459-4441 for more information.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP.
